Commemorations to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day will go ahead in June.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is asking their residents who took part in the Normandy landings, to share their stories and memories. These men were amongst over 60,000 men who stormed  the Normandy Beaches in 1944 and the few who survive are now in their 90’s.

D-Day was the largest land, sea and air military operation in history. Operation Overlord was a moment which shaped the whole  World and ultimately lead to Nazi Germanys defeat.

Veteran Bill Fitzgerald, who was 16 at the time and in the Army Cadets, said, “As far as firing and using a rifle and stuff like that I was ok, you know.”
